A NEW initiative to find jobs for unemployed Bahrainis went live yesterday. More than 2,000 CVs have already been uploaded onto the Jobs4Bahrainis.com website, a joint venture between leading regional recruitment company Gulf Connexions and publishing and marketing organisation Al Hilal Group, said group managing director Ronnie Middleton.
He revealed the site was currently offering 365 jobs across 20 sectors, but expected the figure to grow significantly.
"Jobs4Bahrainis.com is the first service of its type in Bahrain, providing employers with access to Bahraini talent and enabling Bahrainis to search for job opportunities within their specialised or preferred employment sectors," Mr Middleton told a Press conference at the Gulf Hotel.
He said the portal was launched to connect jobless Bahrainis with companies looking for local talent and it was free to place a CV on the site.
"This venture is the first private sector initiative to address the issue of employment of nationals and I am delighted that our national carrier, Gulf Air, has been quick to step in and support this initiative by becoming our main sponsor," he added.
"As our main partner, they will be involved in all aspects of the portal and its development."
The plan is to get colleges, universities, training centres and recruitment professionals involved in the site, increasing the prospects of Bahraini jobseekers.
It is also hoped that Tamkeen, the government body tasked with supporting local businesses and training unemployed Bahrainis, will also climb onboard.
"It would be great to enhance the relationship and it would help Bahrainis get proper jobs," he explained.
Meanwhile, Al Hilal group chairman Anwar Abdulrahman revealed the site would not only offer job opportunities in Bahrain, but in other countries as well.
"Why should Bahrainis not go to a job anywhere in the world?" he asked.
"What prevents them? The attitude that they must work in Bahrain is not good.
"They must go to the job wherever it is. There are too many of us to be given jobs in Bahrain. People of all nationalities go and work all over the world, so why not us?"
He said the site would offer opportunities at all levels, from school-leavers to experienced professionals, as well as career guidance services such as advice on CV writing and interview techniques.
Gulf Air chief executive Samer Majali, who was also at the Press conference, said the airline was committed to supporting projects that helped develop local talent and provide jobs for Bahraini nationals.
